Good evening Debrah, enjoyed your link to the Wilson article and agree that his assessment is one that a good number of people share.
I didn't keep up with the details of the case at the time, but it was certainly a black eye on the justice system.
Points made by Wilson are how the majority of people seem to view things, if the case is still on anyone's mind. Great damage was done to innocent people who were later awarded a fortune. That's a good thing but it's also why people don't, and shouldn't, feel quite as sorry for them anymore. Damned positive outcome the way I see it.

So boring.
One wonders what other shake-ups are in store at the Times.
First Frank Rich's departure. Now Bob Herbert is leaving because he wants to write "more expansively and more aggressively about the injustices visited on working people, the poor and the many others in our society who find themselves on the wrong side of power.”
Yeah, right.
Can Maureen, Friedman, Krugman, and Kristoff be far behind?
"While rich voters trend Republican, Gelman and his colleagues found, rich states trend Democratic."
"The current economic crisis only appears to have deepened conservatism's hold on America's states. This trend stands in sharp contrast to the Great Depression, when America embraced FDR and the New Deal."
I just love how the liberal left go berserk when this topic is discussed. It's always worth more than the price of admission.
Like most, I don't really question whether Obama was born in the U.S......however, those who choose to lie and pretend that there hasn't been an annoying reticence with regard to this issue are nuts.
I enjoy ruffling their feathers!
Like most on the left, Obama gets off on creating a patina of being "othered", and he's even been honest enough to admit in the past how being half-black has given him many advantages.
Good for him on that score; however, those realities will not be discussed during the 2012, of course.
I'm simply tired of the man. I supported him in 2008 because he campaigned as a centrist and gave the impression that he would be bringing a different climate to Washington.
Never thought I'd say this, but compared to him, I'm beginning to like Hillary Clinton. LOL!
The column above makes an excellent point when it asks what about the people who supported GWB in 2004 and who also supported Obama in 2008?.....(and the Diva is among those).
Those same voters and all the Independents who gave Obama a chance in 2008 are the people up for grabs in 2012.
If Chris Christie doesn't run, it's a good bet that Obama will have a second term; however, I dare say he will not in any way deserve one.
" 'Many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he’s a reformer.' --- Hillary Clinton on Bashar al-Assad, March 27."
"Few things said by this administration in its two years can match this one for moral bankruptcy and strategic incomprehensibility."
What's really disturbing about this --- and certainly counts as the most embarrassing for Obama and his administration --- is that he and they openly slandered GWB, Cheney, etc.... for their handling of Gitmo and other residual elements from 9/11.
After essentially preaching with their most partisan fire and brimstone against the Bush administration, they wind up doing everything they railed against and everything they chastised others for doing.
How abominably naive and utterly stupid.
"In the case of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the Obama administration's capitulation is complete. Attorney General Eric Holder, who only 17 months ago heralded a federal civilian trial in New York City for the man accused of masterminding the largest mass murder in American history, now has the dubious chore of announcing to the world that Mohammed instead will be prosecuted by military commission down at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba."
"....the blueprint is brave and profoundly forward-looking. It seeks nothing less than to adapt the currently unsustainable welfare state to the demographic realities of the 21st century. Will it survive the inevitable barrage of mindless, election-driven, 30-second attack ads (see above)? Alternative question: Does Obama have half of Ryan’s courage?
"I think not (on both counts). But let’s hope so."
I fail to see how conjuring up the stale topic of Lubiano does anything but highlight the fact that some are still beating a drum --- or banging a pot, as the case may be --- that has long been beaten.
Has the academy changed at all?
Have the impossibly faux professors who behaved so egregiously been punished or brought to justice in any way?
No.
In fact, they have prospered.
It will be a waste of time highlighting the same points ad nauseum, especially when the public is now fully aware that the falsely accused lacrosse players received around 18 million and are expected to perhaps receive more from the civil suits.
As everyone knows, they endured magnificent injustice, but the fact that they will never have to worry again, financially, and the fact that the entire country knows that the accusations were false.....hardly renders them "victims" any longer.
Quite the contrary.
They are now elevated and exalted for having gone through that and for having prevailed. Very positive dynamics.
Lots of things have happened since, not the least of which includes the fact that everyone has gotten a better look at the real characters of the defense attorneys, the anemic AG, and the corrupt justice system.
The defense attorneys have always been a part of the seasoned corruption. They were on the right side of the lacrosse case simply because they were HIRED.
On the subject of the modern academy, this article by Peter Wood at NAS is an excellent and comprehensive discussion on one of its most pervasive and tyrannical agendas.
Most of the Gang of 88 are tethered to that agenda as well. It's not, as some self-serving academics allege, a "race/class/gender" agenda. It's the untouchable quadrumvirate of "race/class/gender/sexual orientation".
Notice how the "sexual orientation" element is avoided, yet it's one that is pushed on students on university campuses with rabid fervor.
Wood's article explains why so many are silenced and, in my opinion, this agenda is the most heinous and insidious of all.
Yes, Lubiano and her fellow travelers are culpable for the harm that they do, but "sexual orientation" plays as much of a part in their agenda as anything else.
If this reality is not included in a discussion of the long-over lacrosse case, then a full and honest treatment isn't being entertained.
To continue to harp on Lubiano and her fellow travelers is surely becoming a joke.
Can't imagine why some try to avoid the tyrannical gay agenda inside the academy. If that one isn't discussed, then there's very little credibility in one's analysis.
"Given the Democrats’ instinctive resort to granny-in-the-snow demagoguery, the Republicans are right not to budge on taxes until serious spending cuts are in place. At which point, the grand compromise awaits. And grand it would be. Saving the welfare state from insolvency is no small achievement."
"A Republican invitation for Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to address Congress next month is highlighting the tensions between President Obama and Mr. Netanyahu and has kicked off a bizarre diplomatic race over who will be the first to lay out a new proposal to reopen the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks."
"The democracy uprising in the Arab world has been a spectacular display of courage, dedication, and commitment by popular forces—coinciding, fortuitously, with a remarkable uprising of tens of thousands in support of working people and democracy in Madison, Wisconsin, and other US cities."
"Pope Benedict has wanted to beatify John Paul, who shielded pedophiles, and Pope Pius XII, who remained silent about the Holocaust as it happened. Meanwhile, Dorothy Day hasn’t been beatified.
"Not beatifying or canonizing John Paul would be hugely symbolic, a message far more powerful than the ad hoc apologies and payoffs to victims."
He was able to force the White House to do what every other political figure is required to do and he has forced them to do what the Clintons tried to force them to do in 2008.
After all, it was Hillary in the Dem primaries who first brought up the subject of Obama's birth certificate.
Yet the pathetic and rabid Leftists still try to avoid that fact.
"The world that Obama lived in and that shaped him intellectually: the elite universities; his Hyde Park milieu (including his not-to-be-mentioned friends, William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn); the church he attended for two decades, ringing with sermons more virulently anti-American than anything heard in today’s full-throated uprising of the Arab Street."
"Leading from behind is not leading. It is abdicating. It is also an oxymoron. Yet a sympathetic journalist, channeling an Obama adviser, elevates it to a doctrine. The president is no doubt flattered. The rest of us are merely stunned."
.....by 2008, while serving as a senior adviser to the Obama campaign, Holder was bemoaning Bush’s failure to treat captured terrorists “in accordance with the Geneva Conventions,” and condemning Bush counterterrorism as a green light for “torture” and a betrayal of the “rule of law.” One wonders what the attorney general will make of the fact that the intelligence derived from interrogating detainees proved essential in confirming bin Laden’s location for yesterday’s successful operation.
A must-read, and I mean a real must-read from Hitchens.
Death of a Madman (What Obama does next will help define the legacy of Osama Bin Laden.)
"If you tell me that you are staying in a rather nice walled compound in Abbottabad, I can tell you in return that you are the honored guest of a military establishment that annually consumes several billion dollars of American aid. It's the sheer blatancy of it that catches the breath."
Aggressive attempts of revisionism from the Left will be a futile effort.
"The bin Laden operation is the perfect vindication of the war on terror. It was made possible precisely by the vast, warlike infrastructure that the Bush administration created post-9/11, a fierce regime of capture and interrogation, of dropped bombs and commando strikes. That regime, of course, followed the more conventional war that brought down the Taliban, scattered and decimated al-Qaeda and made bin Laden a fugitive."

I see that Blogger still hasn't restored a few comments to this thread. A few of mine and one of yours are still missing. From what I've gleaned this has happened on many blogs....with entire posts having been deleted on some of them.
Just an FYI so you wouldn't think it had intentionally been erased.
Just found out that both your comment and RobertG's had been put into the blog tray for moderation. LOL!
Seems Blogger has activated an automatic spam filter, but I still don't know what happened to a few other comments. New and superfluous features added that might impede the Diva modus operandi!

Barney's in trouble again? That boy toy, er whatever, moved on after his job at Fannie Mae was over so that can't be the same boyfriend who showed up to heckle Barney's political challenger during the last election. Heh. Sounds like Barney's been using his influence and position to get laid.
The Archbishop column. It's astounding that people fail to understand that social deviates might want to don the uniform of a priest, teacher, policeman, scout leader, etc. And that those deviates might rise to positions of power or that those in power are confused by their uniforms too. NoD
There are some witty articles to be found; however, a few writers try much too hard to be provocative and it only ruins the points they are trying to make.
NoD--
It's definitely frightening when you think about how many perverted types find occupations in areas of society where they can exercise easily their perversions.
Thinking back as a little kid, adults didn't talk about those things openly except to tell you not to get into a car with a stranger, etc.....
Those things are important for kids to be aware of; however, I think today parents alarm children way too often to a point where they can't have normal relationships with anyone for fear of some "boogie-man" always lurking.
It's a shame that childhood has to be contaminated in such a way.
The Boy Scouts has certainly been known as a hideout for child molesters. I remember in years past --- don't recall the exact timeline --- that David Gergen's brother was caught molesting boys when he was either a camp counselor or a Boy Scout leader.
Since David Gergen has been an advisor to presidents and is a well-known journalist, much effort was put into stifling media coverage of what his brother did.
I remember the coverage when Gergen showed up in court to support his brother. What an embarrassing mess that must have been.
In any case, it was an unfair advantage for it not to have been covered like it would have been with everyone else.
Reminds me of the coverage of the case of child molester and Duke high official Frank Lombard.
Disgusting that Duke's administration and the Gang of 88 professors didn't make a big deal of that as they did when they went after the innocent lacrosse players.
And the real disgrace is when bloggers who were/are critics of Duke and Nifong, etc......cowardly avoided covering Frank Lombard's case and how differently it was handled.
Yet watch a fee of them still try to follow and critique every bit of minutiae that still takes place in and around Duke.
As if they have the same credibility as they did before.
This kind of cherry-picking to serve a personal agenda will always lose in the end.
"This scandal seemed like an insane cat’s cradle, with Spitzer commenting on the bad judgment of Weiner, who was a beach-house buddy of Jon Stewart and who was married by Bill Clinton to Huma, who was a White House intern for Hillary (who ran against the two-timing Edwards) when Monica was an intern for Bill."
I'm no great fan of Morgan. On SNL I could take him or leave him; however, even after an apology --- which he was under no obligation to make --- the "gay activists" will hound him and his employers until he's fired.
Or they will die trying.
Other groups are constantly used in comedic routines; however, the gay community tries to force a reverence which it simply does not deserve.
Has anyone ever seen a video of a man effing another man in the behind? What can be funnier than that? LOL!
Ironically, it is the rabid faction inside the gay community who specialize in grotesque behavior and hetero-bashing when encountering the slightest disagreement.
And so, Morgan is exactly correct about the whining. Few people are even concerned about someone's sexual orientation until it's forced into every arena.
It's the one agenda that the more you actually learn about it, the more negative it appears......
......which is quite the opposite of most other socio-politico groups.
Debrah, I'm a bit skeptical of those 14 biggest ideas of the year. From my admittedly limited exposure to manufactured trends, what was chosen are weak in my view.
A few are actually valid trends, but you know how it goes. Some "writers" have to concoct subject matter and assign significance to their concoctions in order to have anything to write about.
"Maybe, given all his economic and war woes as he heads into 2012, Obama fears the disapproval of the homophobic elements within his own party. But he has tried to explain his reluctance on gay marriage as an expression of his Christianity, even though he rarely goes to church and is the picture of a secular humanist."

The Writers of Hollywood from the Paris Review Daily.
Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama Tension Leading Up To Libya from Vanity Fair
Ha!
Hi "leisurely lawyer"--
Your views are now shared by many.
It's people who don't even live in the area who seem to be unable to get on with their lives.
There comes a point when following and trying to tease the same old topics and the same old people begin to look mental.
How much more needs to be said about the bad players in that long-over case?
It's mentioned in the news, but not significant.....at all.
I'm beginning to see how Duke, the gang of faux professors, and others think about it all. They are going about their lives unscathed.....
.......while a few keep their faces pressed against their glass houses hoping to shatter them.
As a result, the critics are beginning to look as strange as the ones they obsessively follow.

This is quite a grim analysis, indeed; however, there's long been too many lawyers in this country. About time something broke the trend.

Trump's Birther Buffoonery from The American Spectator.
Too much!

The Capitulation is Complete from The Atlantic.
There are and have been far more egregious examples of prosecutorial misconduct than the long-over-but-still-beaten-to-death lacrosse case.
And the victims didn't receive 18 million each for the injustice.
Moreover, some were fighting for their very lives against sure execution.
And the Supreme Court cannot be held up as the only "boogey men and women".
Each state and their attorneys general must also be scrutinized for their anemic methods....looking the other way until a case becomes high-profile.

To Anonymous--
I fail to see how conjuring up the stale topic of Lubiano does anything but highlight the fact that some are still beating a drum --- or banging a pot, as the case may be --- that has long been beaten.

A Different Kind Of Justice
.....by 2008, while serving as a senior adviser to the Obama campaign, Holder was bemoaning Bush’s failure to treat captured terrorists “in accordance with the Geneva Conventions,” and condemning Bush counterterrorism as a green light for “torture” and a betrayal of the “rule of law.” One wonders what the attorney general will make of the fact that the intelligence derived from interrogating detainees proved essential in confirming bin Laden’s location for yesterday’s successful operation.

Yes, Thought Catalog is definitely offbeat.
